Wildwood® Brand Elements: Trillium

Wildwood® Brand Elements: Trillium

At Wildwood® Chocolate, we know our bars are as beautiful to behold as they are delicious to eat, and we often receive inquiries regarding the artful designs that can be discovered in our products.  With the launch of our brand new website, we welcome the opportunity to reintroduce the elements of our brand that customers have come to know and love.

Our gorgeous brand imagery is derived from native plants found within our namesake, The Wildwood Trail in Portland, Oregon: Trillium flower, Douglas fir cone, and Sword Fern.  First up, Trillium.

The Western White Trillium is iconic for having a total of three dark green leaves and three white flower petals.  It belongs to the Lily family and is unofficially designated the harbinger of spring for its early arrival.  The familiar white flowers bathing the understory of our temperate rainforests is a welcomed sight signaling the end of winter.  The flowers attract native bumble bees, beetles, and moths, and have adapted their fruit and seeds to be fleshy and berrylike.  Ants carry the nutritious seeds back home to feed their young and disperse them after satiation.  Aside from the natural beauty of the forest itself, these symbiotic relationships provide plentiful inspiration on the Wildwood Trail.

Off the trail, Trillium has been used historically in herbal formulations for thousands of years.  Many trillium species contain sapogenin chemical compounds that have been used in astringents, coagulants, expectorants, and even stimulants for the uterus – the source of another nickname, “birth root”.

Though Trillium is bountiful in the Pacific Northwest, it is highly sensitive.  Plants can take up to a decade to mature, and if picked, flowers will not regrow.  Just as trillium takes its time to mature, at Wildwood, we adopt the slow intentional pace of the forests and flowers surrounding us by crafting our products with forethought by hand. Our care and attention to detail is imbued in the quality and beauty of our products, which taste as luxurious and decadent as they look.

We love Trillium for being a key part of the Wildwood Trail and are honored to include it in our branding. Where have you spotted the Trillium Flower in Wildwood products? We’ll be sharing about the Douglas Fir pine cone and the Sword Fern soon, stay tuned.
